BRADENTON -- Manatee County remains under a tornado watch, tropical storm watch, flood watch and coastal flooding warning by the National Weather Service, as meteorologists continue to track Tropical Storm Debby as it hovers off the coast. Local officials are asking residents not to travel to Anna Maria Island today due to flooded roadways. The Sunshine Skyway bridge remains closed until further notice.
Accuweather.com reports 50 mph sustained winds with gusts as strong as 65 mph, as of 8 a.m. Monday morning. The stationary storm system has already set record rainfall levels in Tampa, where residents were pounded by 7.11 inches on Sunday. Accuweather.com expects the storm to finally hit land on Wednesday, most likely further north in the state, though heavy rain is expected continue to batter SW Florida, while isolated tornadoes could continue to touch down into Tuesday morning.
