Manatee County accepting applications for Historic Preservation Board and Planning Commission

MANATEE COUNTY — Manatee County is accepting applications for three seats on the Historic Preservation Board, a citizens’ advisory committee that makes decisions on Historic Certificates of Appropriateness, and two seats on the Planning Commission, a citizens’ advisory committee that makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on land use items.

Historic Preservation Board

The Board of County Commissioners appoints members to a four-year term; the Historic Preservation Board consists of five voting members who are qualified electors in Manatee County. While no particular expertise is required, persons with experience or training in the substantive areas of historic preservation.

Historic Preservation Board members cannot be employed by the County or serve on another land development-related advisory board serving unincorporated Manatee County.
 
The group meets a minimum of 4 times a year in the Manatee Room, on the Fifth Floor of the Manatee County Administrative Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W.

Planning Commission

Manatee County is also accepting applications for two seats on the Planning Commission, a citizens’ advisory committee that makes recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners on land use items.
 
Two seats on the Planning Commission expired in October of 2025. Only one of the members is seeking reappointment.
 
The Board of County Commissioners will appoint two people for a four year term; the Planning Commission consists of seven voting members who are qualified electors in Manatee County. While no particular expertise is required, persons with experience or training in the substantive areas of planning, engineering, environmental science and the development industry shall be considered in the appointment process.

Planning Commission members cannot be employed by the County or serve as a member of another land development-related advisory board serving unincorporated Manatee County.

The Planning Commission generally meets on the second Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Honorable Patricia M. Glass Chambers, First Floor of Manatee County Administrative Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton.
