Manatee County Accepting Applications for Slosberg Driver Education Safety Trust Fund

Posted

MANATEE COUNTY – Manatee County Community Services Department is accepting applications not to exceed $150,000 in financial assistance to enhance driver education programs provided by public and private schools.

The Manatee County Driver Education Safety Trust Fund is made possible through the Dori Slosberg Driver Education Safety Act, so named for Dori Slosberg, who was killed in a 1996 car accident in which another teenager was driving. Dori was the 14-year-old daughter of Democratic State Rep. Irv Slosberg. The Safety Act allows Florida counties to collect an additional $5 with each civil traffic penalty to be put towards improving teenage driving skills.

This money cannot be used to replace funding from existing sources and cannot be used for administrative expenses. The County cannot directly fund programs offered by private driving schools.

Applications are due Sept. 30 and must be delivered to the Manatee County Administrative complex, Suite 303, 1112 Manatee Ave. W., Bradenton. For more information, or to receive an application, call Dee LeBoff at (941) 749-3030 or e-mail her at dee.leboff@mymanatee.org.
