BRADENTON – The Manatee County School Board is still looking for a few sharp and civic-minded CPAs to assist in making sure the school district returns to a state of financial stability by serving on the district’s expanded “Audit Planning and Review Committee.”
Citizens interested in serving must submit the required information no later than this Friday, July 19, 2013.
CPAs selected to serve on the Audit Planning and Review Committee will meet quarterly to promote, maintain and enhance the independence and objectivity of the internal auditing function of the school district by ensuring broad audit coverage, adequate consideration of audit/review reports and appropriate actions on recommendations. The committee will recommend auditors (external auditor, internal auditor and school internal accounts auditor) to the School Board and advise the internal auditor.
“We need independent eyes and ears to strengthen the financial functions of the school district and this is a great way for local citizens to be part of the solution,” said School Board Chair Karen Carpenter. “The members of this committee will provide oversight to make sure the internal processes and procedures of the district are functioning properly and efficiently.”
CPAs interested in serving must:
Manatee County School District
Lyn Lego, Board Agent
PO Box 9069
Bradenton, Florida 34206-9069
Interested respondents shall refrain from soliciting any Manatee County School District Board member or district employee during the selection process. Failure to comply with this provision may result in disqualification.
The Manatee County School Board will ultimately select the members to serve on this committee.
“We will set up a screening process and handle every aspect of selecting committee members openly and transparently, just as we did in our superintendent search,” Ms. Carpenter said. “We are well on our way to stabilizing the finances of this school district and this committee is an important component of that process. We need local citizens to join in and help us so we can move forward together.”
