HOLMES BEACH – The Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus & Orchestra is pleased to announce the appointment of John Ferreira as Chorus Master. Mr. Ferreira will make his debut performance with AMICCO at its holiday concert, December 15, 2013, 2:00 p.m., CrossPointe Fellowship Church, 8605 Gulf Drive, Holmes Beach.

John recently retired, after serving for 25 years, as Director of Music and Worship/Organist at Church of the Palms in Sarasota. During his tenure with Church of the Palms, he developed a full program of five vocal choirs and three instrumental groups. He has served as a guest lecturer on many occasions for the Ministry of Music as well as the Music Director of many civic theatres. Mr. Ferreira holds the distinction of being the founding Artistic/Music Director of the First Congregational Church Gilbert and Sullivan Troupe.

John, born in Newport, Rhode Island, is a Dean’s List Graduate from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey - the premiere choir college in the country. While there, he sang with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra under the batons of Leonard Bernstein, Eugene Ormandy, Sir Malcolm Sergeant, and Leopold Stokowski. During his senior year, he studied in Europe and performed in a recital tour, playing organ in countries such as Germany, Denmark, Holland, Switzerland, and France. John has received certification (C.A.G.O.) from the American Guild of Organists. Dr. Jim Stoltie, AMICCO’s Board President commented, "John is indeed a superb organist and a skilled motivator and teacher; we are fortunate to have him as a part of the creative team."

It is AMICCO’s distinct honor and pleasure to have such a fine musician conducting our Chorus and we are looking forward with great anticipation to our up-coming concert season.
