MPO Meetings Now Available via YouTube Channel

BRADENTON – The Manatee/Sarasota Metropolitan Planning Organization will now offer video of its meetings on a new MPO YouTube channel. The June meeting is now posted and available to view.

Metropolitan planning organizations are federally mandated and federally funded transportation policy-making organizations made up of representatives from local government and governmental transportation authorities.

The Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1962 required the formation of an MPO for any urbanized area with a population greater than 50,000. Federal funding for transportation projects and programs are channeled through the MPO process.

Congress created MPOs in order to ensure that existing and future expenditures of governmental funds for transportation projects and programs are based on the "three C's" - a continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive planning process.
