Buchanan Faces Familiar Rival in Jan Schneider

Posted

After winning their primary races for Florida’s 16th Congressional District Republican Congressman Vern Buchanan and Democratic challenger Jan Schneider will advance to the general election.

Schneider and Buchanan have faced off before, and unseating the deeply entrenched Republican incumbent will likely once more prove challenging for Schneider.

Buchanan, a business entrepreneur, has represented the district since 2013, has served in Congress since 2007, and is running to serve his 10th term in the U.S. House. Buchanan has seen 29 of his legislative initiatives signed into law. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee as its most senior Republican member.

Schneider is an attorney and Yale Law School Graduate. She also obtained a PhD in political science from Yale University and has published a book and many articles on politics, law, and the environment. Schneider has served on numerous national and local boards. Through her legal practice, she has also provided free legal services to public housing residents in Bradenton and Sarasota.
