Robert Turner

Robert H. Turner, 88, passed away and into the arms of our Lord on February 15, 2024, at Lakewood Ranch Medical Hospital. He was born February 19, 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of late Everett H. Turner and Julia Minor (Burton) Turner.

Bob graduated from University of Virginia in 1958 later earning a Master's degree in Marketing in 1987. He was a founding member of the first Volunteer Rescue Squad in Charlottesville VA. During his years of employment, he owned and operated an auto repair shop for 10 years; he served in the City of Richmond, VA as shop manager and in the towns of Plano, TX, Charlotte, NC, and St. Petersburg, FL in the position of Director of Fleet Maintenance.

He eventually retired in 2010 as Director of Fleet Maintenance from the City of St. Petersburg, FL. Bob loved to help others and was always looking for opportunities to pay it forward. He was also an avid Disney fan and enjoyed going to Disney World, cruising, boating, camping and just being near the water. He also enjoyed flying with co-pilot Robert Lee Bird who also enjoyed all the activities Bob did to include going to Tampa Bay Rays baseball.

Bob so loved his community and people in general that he was the spearhead in the starting of a living learning center for adults with learning disabilities that at one point had 65 individuals trained to work and function in the community. He also owned and operated 2 coffee shops in St. Petersburg and Bradenton FL.

Bob was a devout follower of our Lord Christ and would always encourage others to follow in the
teachings of Christ. He served in numerous leadership positions in the church.

In addition to his parents, Bob is proceeded in death by his brother Everett, sister Priscilla, son Jeffery Burton, and son Christopher Perry. Surviving family members include his wife, Lorraine Bird-Turner, son Robert William Turner and his wife, Kimberly of Williamsburg, KY, son Robert Lee Bird of Bradenton, and daughter-in law, Cynthia Turner, Chesterfield, VA; three grandchildren, Nicholas Andrew Turner, Robert Wesley Turner, and Brooke Olivia Turner, one great granddaughter, EmmaJene Turner, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved ones.

A Memorial Service will be 2PM Monday, February 19, 2024, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton Fl 34209. All friends are welcome.
