ST. PETERSBURG – The Rowdies announced on Tuesday that the club has signed 2013 NASL Golden Boot winner Brian Shriver to a four-year contract, with the third and fourth year being a club option.

Shriver (5-10, 160) finished the 2013 NASL Season as the league’s top scorer with 15 goals for the Carolina RailHawks. His prolific scoring abilities earned him the league’s Golden Boot, which is given to the player with the most goals in the season. Shriver was also named to the 2013 NASL Best XI.

The Clearwater, Florida, native was drafted by FC Dallas of MLS in 2009 but turned down the contract to finish his studies at University of North Carolina. He later signed with Miami FC, which later became the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. In 2010, Shriver scored four goals in his first year with the club. In 2011, Shriver led the Strikers to the NASL Soccer Bowl Final by scoring 11 goals. He joined the RailHawks for the 2012 season, where he managed to score 6 goals in league play and 5 in the U.S. Open Cup.

Shriver is no stranger to the Bay Area as he began his soccer career at Clearwater High School, where he served as team captain for three years. In his high school years he was named to the NSCAA/Adidas Youth All-America in 2004 and participated in the 2004 Adidas Elite Soccer Program.

“We’re thrilled to bring Brian home to the Rowdies,” said club owner Bill Edwards. “I’m committed to fielding the best team possible. Brian’s ability to score will keep the game exciting for fans and help us achieve our goal of winning the 2014 NASL Soccer Bowl Championship.”
