School District to Host Info Fair for School Choice

BRADENTON – Students and parents interested in school choice should mark their calendars and attend the Manatee County School District’s School Information Fair on Monday, January 27, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bradenton Area Convention Center in Palmetto. Representatives from every traditional public school (elementary, middle and high school) and charter school in Manatee County will be there to discuss educational programs, academies and opportunities that make each school unique. As an extra bonus, students and parents who attend the School Information Fair can sign up for school choice at the fair, a day before the district’s official School Choice Open Enrollment Period begins.

The School Information Fair is a prelude to the Manatee District’s School Choice Open Enrollment Period for the 2014-2015 school year which runs from Tuesday, January 28 – Friday, February 7, 2014. Students who would like to attend a Manatee District school other than the one to which they are assigned for the 2014-2015 school year, need to apply during the School Choice Open Enrollment Period. The School Choice Open Enrollment Period is the only time during the school year when parents can apply to have their child attend a school outside of their assigned zone without giving a specified reason for the move.

In addition to each school in the Manatee District, representatives from other important school district programs and departments will be available to answer questions at the School Information Fair, such as Food and Nutrition Services, Transportation, ESE and the Parent Information Center.

The Bradenton Area Convention Center is located at One Haben Blvd., in Palmetto.
