Seventeen Manatee County Schools Receive Lower Grade from State

BRADENTON – Manatee County Schools maintained a B rating from the state in its latest district grading, recently issued by the Florida Department of Education, and moved up to 25th in the state rankings of its 67 districts, despite only three schools improving their grades, while 17 received lower ones.

Grades were not issued to schools and districts in 2020 and were optional in 2021.

In this year's grades, Kinnan Elementary improved from a C to a B. Freedom Elementary and Oasis Middle improved from a B to an A.

Lakewood Ranch High, Anna Maria Elementary, Stewart Elementary, Tara Elementary, Witt Elementary, Johnson K-8, Nolan Middle, McNeal Elementary, Willis Elementary, Williams Elementary, Gullet Elementary, Mona Jain Middle, Harvey Elementary, Rowlette Middle, SCF Collegiate School, and Palmetto Charter maintained A ratings.

Manatee High, Tillman Elementary, Miller Elementary, Abel Elementary, Mills Elementary, and Manatee School for the Arts, maintained a B rating.

Southeast High, Bayshore High, Lee Middle, Manatee Charter, GD Rogers Garden-Bullock, Bayshore Elementary, Manatee School of Arts/Sciences, Seabreeze Elementary, Bashaw Elementary, Moody Elementary, and Sugg Middle remained a C.

Rowlett Academy, Braden River High, Myakka City Elementary, Team Success, and Palma Sola Elementary were downgraded from an A to a B.

Samoset Elementary, Blackburn Elementary, King Middle, Braden River Middle, Haile Middle, Buffalo Creek Middle, Imagine Charter Schools in North Manatee and Lakewood Ranch, and Parrish Charter dropped from a B to a C.

Palm View K-8 dropped from an A to a C. Manatee Elementary dropped from a B to a D. Oneco Elementary dropped from a C to a D. Visible Men Academy dropped from a B to an F.

Statewide, Florida public schools showed an overall improvement in many metrics. Neighboring Sarasota County maintained its A rating (one of only 14 counties in Florida to receive an A this year) and moved into a tie for 5th in the state. The 25 spot is the highest Manatee County has ever been since the state began ranking districts. It has been as low as 47.
