SIESTA KEY -- The Fiesta on Siesta Key returns for its sixth year - April 11-13, 2014. The event is the largest collegiate sand competition for NCAA institutions in the country. In April, teams from 32 colleges and universities from around the US will compete, including16 NCAA Sand Volleyball programs. New participants in the NCAA Sand Volleyball competition include: University of Southern California, Louisiana State University, University of South Carolina, Grand Canyon University and University of Alabama Birmingham.
The Fiesta will also feature a separate division for all the Junior/Community Colleges who are fielding teams in the event.
The format for the 2014 Fiesta on Siesta Key will reflect the format instituted last Spring. Florida State University, Tulane and other institutions that have added Sand Volleyball programs are lining up to compete. “The Fiesta will again be a three-day event, primarily so Sand Volleyball programs can maximize their participation to fulfill their NCAA Sand scheduling requirements.”
Sand Programs will compete in true NCAA Sand competition on Friday, April 11, and on Sunday, April 13. The schools with indoor/court programs will compete on Saturday, April 12, along with the Sand Programs that choose to participate. Play will start on Friday with eight dual competitions and run through Sunday, concluding with pairs and singles competitions.
This year at the Fiesta, Siesta Key will also host USA Volleyball (USAVB) High Performance Beach National Team tryouts for players in the following age brackets: Under-21, Under-19, Under-17, Under-16. Players selected will be asked to participate at USAVB National camps and events.
