This Week in Local Government, June 14-18

Posted

MANATEE COUNTY -- It's another busy week for local government entities. Budget season is in full swing and the possibility of Amendment 4 passing this fall has hastened the application of many land use matters. With summer recesses looming for most municipal governments, much is being rushed to the forefront and many major issues will be decided in the next few weeks. Pay close attention and make sure issues that affect your community and way of life do not sneak by unnoticed, amid the hustle and bustle.

The FY 2010-11 budget will be the third straight budget that has been reduced from the previous year. At 6 p.m., the county is inviting the public to comment on proposed budget items. Public hearings are being scheduled earlier this year, in an effort to allow the Board more work time after receiving public input, whereas hearings that were closer to the September finalization provided input after much resolution had already occurred. If you have concerns about budget cuts to certain departments or programs, this is the time to voice them to the Board (click here for session agendas, note that the proposed budget is also available for review on the left sidebar of the main page)
