Homer G. Cablish, Jr. passed away on July 24, 2014 with family by his side. Homer was born at home on Saturday, October 11, 1924 in Maysville, Kentucky to Homer Sr. and Roberta Cablish. He grew up with a younger sister, Bonnie Cablish Hill. On May 23, 1943, Homer married his high school sweetheart, Genola Sullivan. They were the epitome of true love. He was by her side, taking care of her every day until she passed on January 1st of this year.

Homer grew up in Maysville, working at the family grocery store, The Cablish Grocery. He did everything from helping behind the counter to delivering groceries. Homer worked at many things throughout his lifetime. He worked in a paint store, he was a bookkeeper, he was a meat cutter, and he even painted barn roofs with his brother–in– law.

Homer was also a fabulous drummer and played in a dance-band in Maysville for many years. In 1971, Homer moved his wife and youngest daughter to Bradenton, Florida and began his career as an accountant. He eventually opened his own Accounting firm with his son and continued working in accounting until approximately a year ago.

Homer truly loved many things. Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman music, the way Gene Krupa played those drums and baseball were very high on that list. Although he rooted for (and sometimes cussed) the Rays, his heart was always with those darn Yankees. He even attended several World Series Games. He passed on that love of baseball and his good taste in music to his children.

Homer is survived by his son, Homer G. Cablish, III of St. Petersburg, FL, and his daughters Mollie C. Huber of Sarasota, FL and Genola “Little Jo” Cablish of Auburndale, FL. Homer is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Homer/Daddy-O was a true husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be missed by many.

His Funeral Service will be held 1:30 pm, Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Mansion Memorial Park located at 1400 36th Avenue East (Ellenton-Gillette Road) in Ellenton, Florida. Barbara Sue Anderson took her walk with The Lord July 23, 2014. Barbara Sue was born in St. Louis, MO, she is preceded in death by her dear mother, Virginia Ryan Gilbert. She moved to Bradenton, FL in 1961 where she met the love of her life the same day, John Anderson. They were married for 52 glorious years.  

Survivors include beloved son, John Jr. (Barbara) of Bradenton, FL; beloved daughter, Susan of Bradenton, FL; five dear grandchildren, Aubrey, Jacob, Alyssa, Ashley and Alex.

Rick Ramhofer, 67, of Sarasota FL, passed peacefully on Monday, July 21, 2014, while surrounded by his wife and two sons.

Rick grew up in Roslyn, New York, attended New York Military Academy and BU and owned a furniture manufacturing business in Jamaica Plain, Boston. In Boston he met his wife of 28 years, Pam. Rick and Pam came to Sarasota in 1983, immediately falling in love with the area. Rick was an entrepreneur and craftsman owning several cabinet making businesses.

Rick was deeply loved by all who knew him. His family and friends spanned all walks of life. He was a one-of-a-kind man with a deep belief in living life to the fullest and enjoying every moment with those around him. He was often referred to as ‘Rick the 24 hour man’.

Rick was a loving father and husband. He survived by his two sons, Harrison and Will and his wife Pam. His sons were his points of pride. His wife Pam was his guiding North Star.

They were an especially bonded family and together they traveled the globe always finding adventure and fun. Rick had the special gift of acceptance. He welcomed many diverse people into his life and had a great aptitude for spreading joy and love to all those who knew him.

In addition, Rick is survived by a true family of friends: Bruce and Canidia Montieth, Michael Burbank, Dick and Phyllis Nordman, Jim and Charlie Syprett, Johnette Isham and Jeff Plunket, bridge partner Tina Beer, Steve Davis, Amy Davis, the Stanholps and many, many others who felt a special connection with an authentically good guy. Special thanks to the oncology nurses at SMH and Moffitt that took such good care of him over the past year.

As his son described him, “he a was funny, hip, cool, clog wearing, cribbage playing, world travelling, German speaking, unofficial jeopardy champ, gentleman, connoisseur and mentor – certainly the most interesting man in the world.”

James P. McCobb, 89, Bradenton, died Jul 22, 2014. He was a Veteran of the US Navy during World War II.

Leslie Carlton Lovestead, 91, passed away July 21, 2014 at Freedom Village Health Center in Bradenton.

Leslie was born October 1, 1922 in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, Canada. Shortly after his birth, his parents and their seven children came to Florida by train first settling in Elwood Park, where one more child, Elwood, was born. Leslie graduated from Bradenton (now Manatee) High School in 1941.

During World War II, he was in the United States Coast Guard serving on a patrol ship in the North Atlantic and patrolling the outer banks of North Carolina on horseback. He worked for many years for the Railway Express Agency in Bradenton. He later worked for Bradenton Office Supply before retiring.

Leslie was happiest fishing or cast-netting and spending time with Elwood in Myakka. He was a devoted son, a loyal brother, a caring uncle and a steadfast friend. He had lived the last six years at The Inn at Freedom Village, making many friends among the residents and staff. All loved his smile, ready laughter and playful spirit.

He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Bonnett, sister-in-law Eva Lovestead, both of Bradenton, nephews Leslie Lovestead of Springfield, VA, Calvin and David Bonnett of Bradenton, nieces Marian Mendez and Judy Futch of Bradenton, and Ardel Gill of Port Charlotte, FL. Ardel and her husband Roy have been Leslie's caregivers since his brother, Elwood, passed away in 2004.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Adolph and Julia Lovestead, brothers, Cecil, Earl, Lloyd and Elwood Lovestead, and sisters, Violet Wiggins and Ruth Price.

Interment will be at Fogartyville Cemetery with military honors.

Richard "Dick" McLaren passed away on Thursday July 17, 2014 at home in Ellenton, FL. following a battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Martha Cross McLaren who was at his side during his illness. Dick was a native of Canton, IL and he and Martha moved to Colony Cove Ellenton after he retired from Caterpillar Corporation. Dick served Caterpillar as Director of Employee Assistance Programs where he implemented groundbreaking work in helping employees overcome drug and alcohol addictions. Throughout his career Dick helped countless numbers of people overcome drug dependency and return to living healthy and productive lives.

Dick served on the Governor's Task Force on drug use prevention, addiction and family counseling. He was instrumental in establishing Mental Health Agencies throughout Illinois that offered services to people in need. Dick was recognized as an expert in the field of his work and he conducted nationwide seminars for other professionals in counseling, mental health and addictions. Dick served in the US Army as a platoon sergeant in the Korean war. He and Martha were active members in the Parrish Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his spouse, Mary who also died of cancer. Also, he was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Jason Conover. Dick and Mary had four children all of whom are residents of Canton, IL., Sandy McLaren and Jack Kochevar, Cindy and Randy Hilton, Rick and Kyp McLaren and Marla and Jay Walker. Dicks family consisted of 10 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. As a member of the Colony Cove Men's Woodworking Club  Dick shared his skills and knowledge helping new members learn the art of woodworking. He will be missed by his many friends in the Club.

Larry Edward Van Winkle, 77, Bradenton, died July 18, 2014. Born in Golden City, Missouri and later adopted at 6 years of age by the late Edward and Jane Van Winkle of Bronxville, NY. Larry resided in New Rochelle, NY until he moved to Bradenton, FL in 1982. He was a State Certified licensed contractor who owned, developed and managed numerous residential properties.

He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, was an honorary member of The Knights of Columbus, and was an avid Florida State football fan. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his homes in Murphy, NC and Lake Panasoffkee, FL.

Larry is survived by his wife of 23 years, Barbara Van Winkle of Bradenton, FL; sons, Chris Van Winkle and Greg (Paula) Van Winkle; daughters, Jennifer (George) Bloom and Julie (Paul) Migliore; stepdaughter, Joan Anderson; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, Bill (Bernice) Sides and Lowell (Mary) Sides; sisters, Betty (Marvin) Wollard and Mary Jane Van Winkle.

Jean M. Burroughs, 87, Bradenton, died July 18, 2014. Born in Greensboro, NC she moved to Bradenton in 1996 from Morristown, TN.

Predeceased by parents, Clarence and Cora Lee (Stutts) Neese; husband, Roscoe; survived by daughters, Mary Jo (Vic) Bryant of MD and Marty (Jim) Williams of Bradenton, FL; brother, Lofus Neese of WA; sister, Kenan Neese of CA; grandchildren, Justin and Paul Williams, Allyson and Jason Sipes; great-grandson, Garrett Williams.

Mary Gregory Taylor, wife of Kenneth Taylor, of Bradenton Florida, passed away on July 17, 2014, in Sarasota, Florida. She was born May 8, 1937 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, daughter of Michael Navaroli and Avis Tatro Navaroli. She married Kenneth Taylor of Shelburne, Massachusetts on June 21, 1958 in Pittsfield at St. Martin’s Church.

Mary graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1955 and went on to graduate from BCC with a degree in nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Berkshire Medical Center, the Visiting Nurse Association, and the Avalon School, and was also an Assessor for the Town of Richmond, Massachusetts for 7 years. Mary enjoyed hosting family gatherings, reading, tracing family genealogy, interior design, decorative arts and crafts and taught Tole painting classes for many years.

Along with her husband, she is loved and remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Lori Quinn and Brett Quinn of Indian Trail, N.C.; her son, Glen Taylor of Cheshire, Massachusetts; granddaughter and husband, Erin Burke and Jeff Burke of Pittsfield; granddaughter, Cortney Apple of Charlotte, N.C.; great granddaughter, Alexis Breda; great-great-granddaughter, Avani Doucette of Pittsfield; and great grandson, Jack Burke.
