BRADENTON -- It's a new year and there are plenty of ways to get off on a positive foot this weekend. Get out to Emerson Point Preserve for the first volunteer cleanup of the year. Starting a January diet as part of a new year resolution? The Manatee public library is offering a free fad diet presentation. Plus, there's a great fundraiser to aid the Palmetto High School FFA. Get off the couch and make a difference in the New Year. It's time for 2013's first Weekend Adventure in Bradenton!

Come be a part of a new group of individuals who are passionate about Emerson Point Preserve! Beginning this month, we are creating a group of dedicated volunteers who would like to give one day a month to Emerson Point Preserve. As a group, you decide what will be your meeting day, your group name, and with the ranger's guidance, you decide what you would like to work on each month!

January we will work on the Terra Ceia trail just to get us started. Join us for our first workday this Saturday, January 5! Please let us know if you'd like to attend. Call 941-748-4501 ext. 4613 to register.

The Manatee County Central Library is pleased to welcome David Dunham to the Library for a special program on Fad Diets.

Dunham, the Owner of RedZone Peak Performance Center in Bradenton will present "The Not-So-Quick-Fix: The Truth About What You're Putting in Your Body." Open to all, the program will be held in the Central Library’s Auditorium on Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Whether it's fad diets, pills, shots, or any of the other "extreme" weight-loss techniques that people use to shed pounds quickly, this program will explain why many of these "fad" methods do more harm than good.

The program is FREE and seating will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

The Central Library is located at 1301 Barcarrota Boulevard in Bradenton. For additional information please call the Central Library at 941-748-5555, ext 6309
