Weekend Adventures in Bradenton, September 2-4

Posted

BRADENTON -- It's Labor Day weekend, the blue-collar holiday to celebrate all of our toils and the people that they help grow rich! You've been breaking your back all year and this is your excuse to be a lazy dog. Put down your work boots and grab your flip-flops, it's time for a Weekend Adventure in Bradenton!

Art walk is this weekend! Get over to Village of the Arts for their monthly celebration that includes live music, gallery shows and exquisite dining. There's even a new Village of the Arts welcome center at 926 12th Street West. The Village is located between Ninth and 17th avenues West and Ninth and 14th streets west just south of downtown Bradenton.

Ok, so Art Walk doesn't exactly scream Labor Day, but nothing is more blue-collar than the Roller Derby -- well maybe midget pro wrestling, but it's close. The Bradentucky Bombers host their final game of the 2010 season this weekend and there's free beer at the pre-game tailgate party. Get over to Astro Skate and check out these rough and tumble gals who really know how to get down!

If you are older than say... 30, then you remember the blue-collar, steel mill and coal mine rock of Survivor. If nothing else, this band goes to Cleveland for their chart-topping, all-time, nothing-comes-close sports movie anthem Eye of the Tiger, the theme song for Rocky III and every sports parody since.

Busch Gardens has booked the iconic 80's band for a Labor Day Weekend special concert at Gwazi Park this Sunday. Admission is free with park tickets. They'll play hit songs like High on You, The Search is Over and of course Eye of the Tiger, after which you may finally have the courage to try those vcious roller coasters.
