BRADENTON –At Tuesday's Manatee County Commission meeting, Lee Washington, long-time Director of Manatee County Veteran Services, was selected as the county's new Director of Neighborhood Services. Mr. Washington's nomination was unanimously approved by Manatee County Commissioners.

A native of Punta Gorda, Washington served as an active-duty U.S. Marine from 1987 to 1998. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant/E6, Infantry Platoon Sergeant. Upon returning to civilian life, Washington worked as a personal bodyguard in Beverly Hills, CA. He eventually moved back to his home state of Florida, where he began a career in mortgage banking for 10 years.
