This property took over 25 years get approved. BOCC had to find a place to place dredge materials for Wares creek drain which goes from Manatee Ave. to south of Desoto Mall. This project was spearheaded by former BOCC’s and the late Commissioner, Pat Glass. To read the back door deals with no worksessions with the BOCC or City Councils is expected of KVO. The project may be good or bad but done with KVO thinking he is in charge of policy changes with no open dialogue in public. Very distressed to read this as I was chair of the BOCC and cut the ribbon to.start this major drainage project with BOCC and Congressman Buchanan….

The complaint is that dead trees and other vegetation had to be cleared. Why does Benderson have to do this? Why can't the County maintain the easement - it's only 10 acres? Again, KVO gets away with ending the discussion by calling the question. Ballard, Rahn, and Turner join KVO to end the discussion. Ballard, Rahn, and Turner vote to let Benderson "straighten" Cooper Creek. Ballard and Rahn vote to allow Benderson to make their investments in wetland mitigation banks, which is to say that Benderson will pay for man made wetlands elsewhere in exchange for destroying wetlands where they want to develop. Ballard and Rahn again ignore the overwhelming public comment. I beg that citizens remember Ballard and Rahn's votes to give away conservation easements - just like we will remember Ballard and Rahn voting to eliminate the County's wetland buffer requirements. They are counting on Benderson's bankroll to paint a different picture. 2 years seems a long way away. They are hoping we will forget.

Lets not forget. 10 years later they are still behaving badly not only in Florida but worldwide Great facts by Craig Pittman Craig Pittman Former Times Reporter Published Oct. 2, 2015 Mosaic Fertilizer, the world's largest phosphate mining company, has agreed to pay nearly $2 billion to settle a federal lawsuit over hazardous waste and to clean up operations at six Florida sites and two in Louisiana, the Environmental Protection Agency announced Thursday. "The 60 billion pounds of hazardous waste addressed in this case is the largest amount ever covered by a federal or state . . . settlement and will ensure that wastewater at Mosaic's facilities is properly managed and does not pose a threat to groundwater resources," the EPA said. https://www.tampabay.com/news/environment/phosphate-giant-mosaic-agrees-to-pay-2-billion-over-mishandling-of/2247897/

Congratulations to Manatee County voters and victorious candidates. Let's take the developers to task and get our wetland buffers back.

I don’t know about you, but if I got a 59 on a test, it would be an F. There are a lot of people upset with the current mayor, and he only won because of the developer back money. An F is still an F in my book. Bill Sanders has a very strong following and hopefully we will keep the city and the F mayor on their toes until the next election.

Clearly, the two smartest County Commissioner candidates are in the same race. If the system was designed in our best interests, County Commissioners would be non-partisan. Sari is obviously well qualified. Capping Piney Point, stormwater matching funds... BoCC meetings would rise to a higher level of discussion - she would be the opposite of what Jason Bearden brings to meetings.

There’s no reason Sarasota County should continue to pursue permits to dredge open Midnight Pass, or any reason for the county commission to attempt to weaken Florida’s environmental protection regulations in order to obtain permits to dredge the Pass open. The Sarasota County Commission should immediately return the $500,000 the Florida legislature earmarked to open the Pass, that money should be spent on hurricane recovery for those that need help, not on a wasteful dredging project.

If you consider leading a city through a global pandemic, holding the best interest of your city while being targeted by state and local officials for special interest groups, fighting for funding to reduce the tax burden on your city residents, and putting the pieces back together after devastating Hurricanes all the while managing thousands upon thousands of tourist each day a difficult job, well it is and Mayor Judy Titsworth has been doing that day in and out. Please consider re-electing Mayor Judy. You can be sure she won’t stop fighting for the City of Holmes Beach. I can say that from my own experience as a former County Administrator, Mayor Judy always stood up for her City but that’s because she put the work in to know all the facts and listened to what her residents wanted. In these very difficult times experience matters.

So many interesting observations to draw from the board's discussion. The commissioners now clearly accept Kruse as the subject matter expert. Bearden is a close second, thought no one. The real tell of this report is that they were planning to slide $140 million of debt through on consent. Is that Bishop's call? Rahn's? Such a move is not the good government we voted for on Aug 20. The 51st W extension? will that be southward from 53rd Ave to El Conquistador Pkwy? And the 54th Ave extension will also connect to El Con Pkwy. I suppose it is just coincidence that Carlos Beruff's 500 acre Aqua by the Bay is right there. Beruff has multiple developments on El Conquistador Pkwy that span almost that entire southwest corner of the County, from El Con pkwy to Sarasota Bay. The medians on El Con Pkwy have recently been, or are in the process of being upgraded with new irrigation, plenty of palm trees and other water intensive show plants. All told, we are spending $millions on projects around Beruff's El Conquistador Parkway developments.

I think that somehow, somewhere: I was transported to Bizzaro World. The republicans used to be the party that was conservative, anti-nanny state, against superfluous laws and in general; against taxes. Governor Ron and the republican legislature passed over 180 new laws in 2024. One law passed every two days. They also quietly passed the largest tax increase in the history of Florida. Didn’t hear about that? It was the tax that was imposed on internet sales. I tried to find out how much it amounted to; however, the state does not segregate the internet sales tax from general revenue. I know I pay a lot, probably more than any other tax. That is new, unregulated income for the state. Maybe this is where Ron got the money for his attempts to influence the electorate on two of the constitutional amendments before the voters. Is an elected official using state tax money to “educate” the electorate as to how to vote; a problem? Now, the republicans, in general, are supporting a guy that bragged about able to assault young girls because he is/was rich. The only thing more shocking, is the blind support for Trump by the evangelizers. That is a term I use to describe people who pretend to be Christians when in fact they are the worst examples; of and for Christians. I know the story behind the “evangelizers support.” Something about King David and the absurd conclusion that a sin of David led to the birth of Jesus. I am confident that the offending preachers will get their “just” reward. “Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.” Jesus also said; “I am the way, the truth, and the light. And with respect to the uniting of republicans with the evangelizers: it was Jesus himself that first mentioned the separation between state and church. "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's" This is the election of the person who will have her/his hand on the button that can literally destroy the world. Clearly the elected Republicans are following Trump like sheep. Not looking out for the people who elected them, but for their own agendas. They need to be routed: Just to get their attention. And BTW, you can save the world. Kelvin Lindbloom 11-2-24 Bizzarro World

These climate denying politicians take us as fools. The evidence is so overwhelming, yet they lie to us, telling us not to believe the year after year after year record setting temperatures. Each summer is the hottest on record, and the coolest we’ll ever see again. We are the ones with the power. Wake up - this isn’t something 100 years down the road. It is here. And accelerating.
