The stink on Beruff and his puppet county commissioners just keeps getting worse, but they don't notice the stench, as long as there is $ coming into their pockets. Shame.
The parking is not the real problem. It's the lack of adequate access going to and from the island. Holmes Beach has already documented adequate parking. On the average beach day, traffic backs up for 5 miles and more into Bradenton. A wider, separated, and safe bike lane and better bus service will do more to solve access than anything else. I do agree that more beach access points with restrooms would also help.
It's very unsettling how little thought is given for the health of the land, water and the residents. I grew up on fossil and archaeological sites, and in the back rooms of museums. Our history is filled with the remains of various civilizations that did not take care of themselves by taking care of the land. Doesn't go well.
The BOCC does not want to hear from the public. Still no call for Citizens that can't make it to chambers.
The gang of 6 are bought and sold by developers, Akward on the Bay was living proof
Meanwhile in Orange County sets an example all 67 counties should follow
But in the last 200 years, Florida lost more than 9 million acres of wetlands — meaning it lost more wetlands, in acres, than any other state, according to a report published in 1990 by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Still, Florida remains the state with the most wetlands, according to the agency.
Locally, Orange County lost 5.6% of its wetland acreage in the last thirty years, Hull said Tuesday, citing a recent study conducted as part of the process to revise the county’s Wetland Conservation Areas Ordinance.

Carlos Beruff has zero-0 respect for our community as a whole and certainly is an environmental disaster. Only our local HERO George Kruse brought up concerns to the other Board members, their response… crickets and it wasn’t even after lunch!
So disgusted with the rest of the Board in how they responded to this outrageous action by Akward on the Bay.
We need to keep the only sane Commissioner on the BOCC

Who is Mr. Gadfly?
Sadly 13,000 illegals come through our border every day and that’s the folks we know about. So that’s about the same number of people living in Manatee County coming into our Country every month. The NGOs are giving them in many cases up to $2,000 each month more than many elderly receive on social security. I don’t know where the NGOs get all this money but I’d guess much of it comes from us (the taxpayers). Obviously the worst part is the children who in many cases are being handed off to unverified strangers. The stories told by whistleblowers about the fates of these children is horrid.
Far better choice than the current elected official or even Heather Felton in my opinion. His vision can bring our District to the next level and unify the Board to make positive changes that are needed. ... For the Record
The party will cleanse itself of Christian Zeigler, but only the governor can cleanse the public boards of Bridget Zeigler — why is the governor failing to remove such a hypocrite from these public offices? Inaction is a choice to support. It is said that "birds of a feather..." and the governor has made no move to do what he could to rid us of this hypocrite.
Congress could significantly lower the pharmaceutical costs for all Medicare recipients today with one simple act. The federal government has already negotiated significantly reduced pharmaceutical rates that are used by the VA, qualifying hospitals and Community Health Centers. Section 340B of the Public Health Service Act requires pharmaceutical manufacturers participating in Medicaid to sell outpatient drugs at discounted prices to healthcare organizations that care for many uninsured and low-income patients. Congress can mandate Medicare patient eligibility for a 340 B medication discount now instead of playing their current woe is me game. The pharmaceutical industry gouges the American public on the pretense that new drugs wouldn’t be developed if they can’t maintain their price gouging. So why do they sell their drugs to other countries at a fraction of the cost they charge the American public? Are we that big a sucker to fall for this line of baloney? Please go to Pharmacychecker.com and compare Canadian drug pricing to US pricing to see the magnitude of the problem. Do you think the Canadian companies are selling the same drugs at a loss? The other boogeyman that the drug industry tries to scare you with is that there wouldn’t be any research for new drugs if they can’t have the huge profits. Most of the drug research is carried out in major universities. If we expanded funding for this kind of research in the universities and paid companies to manufacture the proven products we would all be far better off.
We should bear in mind that the southern border has been an issue for years, even before the Trump years. Congress doesn't want to take a stand so it's left to regulations that originated in the Trump years. Biden's fault? I think rather it is Congress. And that said, I'm not sure there's a crisis, thousands are stopped at the border every day. That they are allowed into the country to wait for determination of their status isn't Biden, it's current law and regulations.
Thank you for a bit of good news. I just want to know who is the "we" in "we can test out and implement strategies..." If our current local govt. has anything to do with it - we're cooked.
What a pitiful example of an elected official. Clearly KVO has bully issues that apparently has been lifelong. Elected officials that conduct themselves in this manner must be removed. The existing board needs to have a vote of no confidence and remove KVO immediately before he can do more harm to the citizens and taxpayers of this county.
If that doesn’t work he needs to be voted out of office…
KVO One & Done
This has concerned me for a long time. We ask, what can we do? Consume less! Do we really need 10 pairs of jeans, 20 tee shirts, a new cute blouse each week? We are consumaholics. We do NOT need so much, only to stuff it in our closet, then discard at the end of the year. WE create the market for the greed and inequities. Do you know how many TONS of clothing goes to landfills each year? 13 million tons of textiles are sent to landfills or incinerated in the USA EACH YEAR!

These are all excellent suggestions. When you consider that 40% of food produced in the US is wasted, this to me is horrifying, especially in context of our worldwide issues of tens of thousands of people in Palestine are with little food at all. Food that is dumped in the garbage and not composted, emits methane while it decomposes. Two simple things... don't waste food yet freeze or reinvent ways to use it. IF you do dispose of it, at least compost it instead of dumping in the garbage.

Elaine, great comment, unfortunately our elected officials are brainwashed about development. They only look for what's in it form them in the short term, more real estate tax monies from over development. They have no vision in the larger picture of what we should be leaving to future generations to come. Slam, bam, done deal should be their mission statement. Have a boat protest peacefully and disrupt rush hour traffic a few days your results should have a better outcome than where the boaters are now.
I believe that Gandhi was correct. Non-violent civil disobedience is the only way to bring about change that allows people to enjoy the change and not get killed in the process.

Why bother, take just one important issue EVERYBODY agree on was NOT to reduce the setbacks on WETLANDS. Did the BOCC listen, NOPE NADA didn't care what the Advisory Planning Board said or recommended. Being on any advisory board is just being a RINO Recognition In Name Only
If the board amends the wetlands regulations, they'll do so without the approval of the Manatee County Planning Commission, which voted 4-2 last week against recommending any changes.
The four planning commissioners who opposed said they either couldn’t see how the changes benefited the public or that they did not have enough information to make a decision.
That meeting was well attended by residents who came to weigh in on the issue. https://www.wusf.org/environment/2023-08-16/manatee-county-proposed-changes-developers-build-closer-wetlands
The BOCC is bought, sold and instructed what to do on all matters concerning development. VOTE THEM OUT especially is the vote is after lunch when the developers handlers had a chance to instruct them on how to vote. This BOCC has been one big disappointment to the citizens of Manatee County. WTF aka Welcome To Florida
