Chief's Corner: Bradenton Police Department

Posted

The Bradenton Police Department will soon celebrate the swearing-in of eight new officers—graduates of the law enforcement academy and the department’s newest Sponsored Recruits. These dedicated men and women represent the latest class to complete the Sponsored Recruit Program, launched in 2022. The program allows future officers to attend the academy while receiving paid tuition, a salary, and benefits.

As these recruits begin their law enforcement careers, another class is already preparing to start the academy later this month. And while we proudly welcome new officers, recruitment at BPD never stops.

The department is now accepting applications from individuals interested in attending the Fall 2026 law enforcement academy. BPD will host three Physical Agility Tests (PATs) beginning January 28 for prospective candidates seeking sponsorship.

The PAT is the first step in the selection process and includes timed sit-ups, push-ups, a 300-meter sprint, and a 100-pound dummy drag. While physical fitness is important, BPD also looks for candidates with the right mindset—men and women who view law enforcement as a long-term career and a commitment to serving the community.

Interested candidates must complete an application before participating in the PAT. Eligible applicants will be contacted by a recruiter with additional details regarding testing dates, requirements, and the sponsorship process.

Each testing cycle typically attracts about 60 candidates. Those who advance move on to a comprehensive selection process that includes background investigations, interviews, and additional screenings.

If you are motivated, community-minded, and ready to begin a meaningful career in law enforcement, the Bradenton Police Department encourages you to apply. Learn more and apply at BradentonPD.com/bpdsponsoredrecruit
