Emil M. “Bud” Phillips, Jr., 92, of Bradenton, FL, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, surrounded by his family. Bud was born in Assumption, IL on September 19, 1930, to Emil and Adriene Phillips.

After graduating from Assumption High School, Bud joined the Navy where he served 4 years as Chief Petty Officer and was honorably discharged in 1953.

He went to Arkansas State University on a football scholarship graduating Magna Cum Laude. Then he went on to earn his Master’s degree at the University of Illinois. After graduation he began his career at KPMG Accounting Firm. In 1972 he settled in Boardman, OH, where he became a personnel partner of Hill, Barth & King, until his retirement in 1990. He also served as Vice President of Ohio CPAS and Chairman of the Professional Ethics and Director of OSCPA and appointed to the AICPA Accountancy Board.

Bud was preceded in death by his first wife, Sara Sharp Phillips; their daughter, Barbara Denise; his parents and sisters, Kathrine Rich, Donna Bouchez; stepchildren, James and Greg Samuels and Sherry Bush.

The highest points in Bud’s life were the birth of his four children. Bud is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Mary Jane Phillips; daughters, Terry (Bill) Silver, Sandy (Mark) Goldbach; son, Matt (Bonnie) Phillips; stepsons, Andrew, Ted (Gina) Samuels, Brad (Qwen) Smith; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and his faithful dog, Buddy.

A Celebration of Life will be held 2 PM, Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Freedom Village Landings Auditorium, 6406 21st Ave. West., Bradenton, FL 34209. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209 is in charge of his arrangements. His final resting place will be Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Route 72, Sarasota 34241.
