Leslie “Les” G. Barnwell, 77, passed away August 21, 2023, in Bradenton, FL. He was born in Dublin, Ireland, to Thomas H. and Annie (nee Rath) Barnwell on August 13, 1946. He moved to Bradenton, FL in 2017.
Les served in the Airforce before becoming a US Citizen. He was stationed most of his service in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He worked in the aeronautical field as an Engineer for Williams International for 32 years, performing safety checks following aircraft and missile engine repair and maintenance. This provided safety in the skies.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Henry Barnwell and Annie Barnwell, as well as elder brother, Henry Barnwell and elder sister, Mae Bartlett. Les is survived by his wife of 20 years, Karen; sisters, Lydia Riggert (William) and Hilary Hovenden (Charlie); brother, Winston Barnwell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 PM Saturday, September 9, 2023, with Memorial Service to follow at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Condolences may be made to www.brownandsonsfuneral.com.
