Manatee County Recovery From Milton Includes Fuel

MANATEE COUNTY — There are signals of success to be found on day three of post-Milton recovery in Manatee County.
   
Public Works crews have been hard at work repairing traffic lights throughout the county—120 are operational as of this morning with 25 in flash mode and 34 on generator power. However, approximately 130 traffic lights are still without power or experiencing communications failures. As a reminder, drivers should treat each intersection with non-working traffic lights as a four-way stop by coming to a complete stop and yielding right-of-way to other drivers. Motorists are also urged to use caution and watch out for workers who are trying to make our roads safer as quickly as possible.

Damage assessment teams have been out across the county, surveying the aftermath of Milton, and with 45% of the initial inspection completed, 19 homes are deemed destroyed, 536 sustained major damage, 1112 with minor damage and 2259 affected. Residential Damage estimates were $136,569,705 with Commercial Damages estimated at $16,347,035

And – hope is here for those looking for fuel: The State of Florida Division of Emergency Management has opened a temporary fuel site at Bennett Park (400 Cypress Creek Blvd., Bradenton). Fuel supply is limited, and there is a limit allowed per vehicle.

Several Points of Distribution (POD) sites have been set up throughout the county. Items, such as water and MREs (Meals Ready to Eat), vary from location to location.
