Physical Plant's Album Release Party this Saturday

Posted
BRADENTON – Local band Physical Plant has announced the release of its second album, Hot Future. The band is set to perform live this Saturday, at an album release party in Bradenton.

On Saturday, August 13, Physical Plant will bring their distinctive blend of psychedelic-progressive rock and funk to Oscura–Bradenton's newest venue for original live music. The album release show will feature supporting performances by Sarasota songwriter Lesa Silvermore and St. Pete rock band Beach Terror.

Physical Plant formed in 2009 as a five-piece band and quickly became well-known in the Sarasota music scene for a diverse live show featuring tight vocal harmony, creative arrangements, and intricate guitar work. With the departure of singer-songwriter Lake Elrod in 2014, Physical Plant left behind the acoustic guitars and mandolins to focus on a driving blend of funk, psychedelic and progressive rock from songwriters Josh Scheible and Caegan Quimby. Hot Future documents this era of Physical Plant, with bassist David Baker and drummer Ryan McCarthy in the rhythm section.

The sessions for Hot Future began during the summer of 2018 at Sarasota's Burnt Orange Sound Studios. The album captures the evolution of Physical Plant's sound from its 2018's album, What's Laid Down, through its exploration of a focused brand of "funk-in-flected psychedelic rock"–while preserving the same maximalist flair that made its earlier eclectic recordings favorites of the area's rock scene.

Saturday's release show will see the reunion of the lineup that recorded Hot Future with Baker and McCarthy joining Scheible and Quimby on stage for the first time since 2019. Physical Plant will also perform as its current arrangement with Dave Cornicelli on bass and Michael Murphy on drums performing material written after the recording of Hot Future.
