Trump Visits "Alligator Alcatraz" ICE Detention Center in Florida Everglades

Posted

MIAMI-DADE — On Tuesday, President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem joined Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for a tour of the new ICE detention center that was assembled in just eight days on an airstrip in south Florida.

The facility appears to be the brainchild of Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. Gov. DeSantis used emergency powers to seize the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, a Miami-Dade airstrip, where the state has constructed a rapid-build immigration detention facility.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management set up temporary shelters used for natural disaster response to house detained immigrants. Water, sewage, and power will be provided by mobile utilities, according to the governor's office.

The state will spend approximately $450 million a year to run the facility. Although funding for the operation was not included in the recently passed budget, the state can seek reimbursement from Washington, although it is unclear whether it will receive it.

The Governor doesn’t have money to do this, but thinks the Federal Government will pay - unbelievable!

Follow the money-who is getting rich off these detention centers.

Once again, the Native Americans get screwed by placing this detention center on their land. Unbelievable that they can get this erected in 2 weeks via "Emergency Powers" while people are still trying to get their lives back in order after 3 hurricanes last year with little help from the government. The immigrants are people, not cattle, so I am baffled why there is such a big push to gather these individuals up and place them in a detention center. Why can't they just use Mar-a-Lago?
