Urbanite to Kick off Season with Regional Premiere of Jennifer, Who is Leaving

Posted

Nan is working the night shift at Dunkin, fielding frequent calls from her husband, who needs help finding…everything. Meanwhile, Jennifer is doing her best to ignore Joey, the aging patient wearing down her…patience. At the same time, Lili is overwhelmed by the looming pressure of the SAT exam and her father’s insistence that she go to work the night before the test.

Set in a lonely Dunkin Donuts alongside a Massachusetts highway, Jennifer, Who is Leaving,  captures the demands placed on women, delving into the physical, emotional, and mental toll of caregiving—and the moments that push us to the edge.

Urbanite Producing Artistic Director Summer Dawn Wallace, who has been focused on directing in recent years, will play Jennifer. It will mark Wallace's first time on-stage in an Urbanite production in over five years.

"I'm really excited for our Sarasota audiences to see this play," said Wallace. "This play is funny; it has a lot of bite. I'm honored to have the chance to get to wear my actor hat and to be in the room with such incredible artists.

Céline Rosenthal directs the regional premiere of Morgan Gould's poignant comedy. Jennifer, Who is Leaving, opens October 18 and runs through December 1. Visit the Urbanite website for ticket and schedule information.
