Video: Manatee County Commission Approves Tentative Millage

Posted

During a Budget Reconciliation/Approval of Tentative Millage Rate meeting on Thursday, Manatee County Commissioners voted 5-1 to hold the general millage rate steady ahead of upcoming TRIM notices.

Commissioner Jason Bearden voted against the measure, arguing that residents were demanding lower millage rates and, as Republicans, the board should deliver.

Commission Chair George Kruse argued that if commissioners wanted to lower the millage rate in the current economic environment, they had months to present staff with ideas and/or direction on where such cuts should come from, especially given that the board had recently approved major spending items such as the purchase of the Seafood Shack for a boat launch and, more recently, the purchase of the former Mixon's Fruit Farm.
