Alice Joyce McGowin Gullett, age 84, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.
Alice was a beloved wife, mother, granny, sister and friend. She was born July 8, 1938, in Bradenton.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Alex McGowin; her husband, Benjamin D. Gullett and her sister, Jane Bell. Sadly, her brother, James McGowin passed away 4 days later and will be terribly missed. She is survived by her children, Benjamin Gullett and wife, Milagros Gullett, Betsy Johnson, John Mark Gullett, Richard Gullett and wife, Deannah Gullett; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Alice was a devoted follower of Christ and a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Bradenton. Alice graduated from Manatee County High School. She later went back to school at Manatee Community College earning her B.S. in Nursing and worked in nursing for 25 years, spending the last 10 of those years at Gulf Coast Surgery Center before retiring.
Alice’s love for quilting earned her many ribbons at the Manatee County Fair, but nothing brought her more happiness than cooking for her family and friends and spending time with her children and grandchildren especially if it involved a game of Scrabble, Spoons or Mexican Train. Alice was a tough cookie with a heart of gold. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life is planned for 4:00 PM, Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church 1805 30th Ave W, Bradenton, FL 34207. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 26th Street Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
