Richard Joseph Bonneau, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and esteemed mathematician and software engineer passed away peacefully on June 14th, 2024 in Sarasota, FL. Richard (Rich) was born on November 9th, 1946 in Holyoke, MA to loving parents Martial and Irene (Nadeau) Bonneau who instilled in him a passion for learning and a deep sense of compassion.

Rich's academic journey began at Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA where he earned his BA in Mathematics in 1968, and ultimately took him to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he received his PhD in Mathematics in 1974. This marked the beginning of an illustrious career that spanned over four decades.

Throughout his life, Rich had a profound impact on those around him, both in his professional work and personal relationships. His dedication to teaching extended beyond the classroom as he generously shared his knowledge with others. From leading classes at his son Scott's high school to serving as an adjunct professor at various universities in Massachusetts and Florida, Rich inspired countless students with his wisdom and kindness. In addition to being a devoted educator, Rich made significant contributions to the field of software engineering during his tenure at Digital Equipment Corp. and at Raytheon, where he worked on revolutionary radar technology. Rich leaves behind a legacy that will continue to influence future generations.

Outside of work, Rich found great joy and solace within the embrace of family. He is survived by his loving wife Theresa (Terri) Bonneau; son Scott Bonneau; daughter Amy Bonneau Morganson; and stepfather to Diane Weishaar, Bryan and Scott Dowling; and siblings Hubert (Red), Simone, Christine and Connie, and numerous other relatives and friends.
"Papa/Grandpa Rich" truly cherished his time with his 17 grandchildren: Ashley, Nathan, Grant, Gavin, Jackson, Gabrielle, Garrison, Lincoln, Maeve, Indie, Charlotte, Fallon, Phoebe, Irving, Fiona, Atreyu, and William; and two great granddaughters Piper and Capri.

In addition to his parents and siblings Arthur, Michael, and sister Theresa Bonneau, Richard was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Ann Bonneau whose memory remained close to him throughout the years.

A true New Englander at heart, Richard held an unwavering devotion for Boston sports teams-especially the Celtics-and reveled in their victories. In spite of his declining health Rich watched nearly all of the final games from his Sarasota hospital bed, and would have loved to have seen them win their record 18th NBA title this past week.

Rich and wife Terri moved to Bradenton, FL in 2015 and became parishioners at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church where Rich was an active member. Rich joyfully shared his time and talents as a member of the parish Knights of Columbus, a catechist in the children's Faith Formation program, a hospital Eucharistic minister, a member of the church bowling team, a volunteer IT tech and food pantry worker for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Rich also enjoyed mentoring several children in Manatee County's Big Brother program.

The loss of Rich leaves an indelible void within our hearts which serves as a testament to the love we hold for him. His absence will be deeply felt but we take comfort knowing that though he may no longer walk among us physically, his spirit endures through each person whom he has touched along this extraordinary journey called life.

Those who wish to remember Rich in a special way may make a gift in his memory to the Gary Sinise Foundation or SS. Peter & Paul The Apostles Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council #15231.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 AM Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Ss Peter and Paul the Apostles Catholic Church, 2850 75th Street West, Bradenton, FL. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209, is in charge of arrangements.
