— U.S. congress election — time to look at the opposition parties here for rational choices - both of these noted, Speir and Gruters, are part of the takeover of New College and the attempt to takeover the local campus of USF. Neither would represent the communities if elected, being devoted to Project 2025 and to the elimination of home rule of our communities. Even worse, Gruters is the spouse of the maga base leader who profits from being the one who receives all dark money for it and protects these donors from public records that would reveal their support of Trump and all the corruption flowing from it. Joe Gruters takes his profit and distributes the dark money as needed among the maga monsters under complete cover. Don't be fooled into selling ourselves out — support and elect a candidate who will work for us, not either of these.
Conerly is a developer puppet which was seen when he was on the Manatee County Planning Commission. You are so right that he was a "do nothing" when it came to correcting SB 180. He never proposed a companion house bill to SB 840 this past session. He knew that the citizens wanted this travesty to be corrected having been part of town hall meetings where this issue came up. And I'm sure he received countless letters. I know I sent one. I didn't vote for him in 2024 because of his performance on the Planning Commission. He needs to be voted out.
Mike, I agree with you that the elimination of the ACA subsidies was a morally corrupt decision, without a solution to provide healthcare to all US citizens. The increase in the uninsured will lead to increased personal bankruptcies (the number one cause of personal bankruptcy in the US is currently medical debt), increased use of the ERs by the uninsured driving up uncompensated care, increased death due to no access to costly medications and physician care, increased insurance premiums for workers and businesses, due to the uncompensated care. The ultimate answer is universal healthcare like every other first world nation. We pay double the amount per person compared to every other developed nation and rank at or near the bottom for quality every year. Universal healthcare will reduce the cost of healthcare while increasing the quality. Universal healthcare will be good for corporations and individuals.
So deeply sad. I drove east on SR64 this past week. It’s been awhile since I have been in that part of the county. I came home so bummed. It’s all disappearing. I can’t believe how far inland the development is spreading. I especially feel for the people who moved “out there” only to find that the money-interests don’t give a damn about them. Who keeps voting in these lackeys?
Very interesting article. It would be nice to know what the actual agreement the HOA has with Benderson and whether the wetland mitigation concerns are legitimate. Will they be losing any golf courses with this deal?

Earth would be an ice cube, his colleagues dead and the sun burned out by the time his care package arrived. Hey, nothing in the movie was realistic,, but that doesnt make it any less fun to watch
It’s great to see a younger person getting involved in the community and showing interest in running for commissioner. I hope he can engage his peers to become more involved, since they’re the ones who will ultimately live with the long-term impact of today’s decisions.
Tuesday I was bike riding along Lakewood Ranch Blvd south of SR70 and the irrigation alongside the road and in the median was running during the day. Apparently Manatee County isn't subject to these restrictions. /s
