Will the proposed tuition increase cover a cost of living wage for the head of the college or maybe a new vehicle?

Once again - great citizens of Florida - get out your pens, tap those computer keys and call your state representatives - you know them - the ones that are “elected” and VOICE your OBJECTION to these two bills!!! Remember . . . Stay engaged & informed - our Florida environment needs your support!

This is Florida-how is the school district being a good steward of public property, taxpayer dollars and student/staff health,  if they don't understand the consequences of turning the a/c off and on in our buildings?  This did not save the taxpayers money -nor does it give taxpayers confidence in our school district.  We were extremely lucky that staff and students spoke during public comment or it would have continued to be hidden from the public at large.

Color me shocked - a community of color was given the shaft . And their own commissioner is totally fine with sending the money elsewhere? His excuse is pathetic. Even if that money would not have funded a lift station, they could’ve done something else helpful in Tallevast. Appalling.

So, more guns is the answer to the increased shootings on campuses? In the headline news reports following campus shooting's at TYSU and WNU... (Told You So Univ. and Why Not Univ.). "Two killed, two wounded by de-ranged student shooter, Three killed, one wounded by friendly cross-fire!" NO! Less guns makes more sense!

Of course it did, and of course they did. I mean, why wouldn’t “christians” who are called to be stewards of the land continue to mistreat it? It’s the same line as their treatment of immigrants - directly OPPOSITE of what their bible tells them.

Is anyone surprised by this. Of course not. That is how Buchanan is. Afraid to vote on controversial issues. So the way they all do it is not show up. Then when everyone forgets he will say I didn't vote for it. Now if it benefits him he is at the front of the pack. Remember the covid funds for businesses. Did any of them have to pay it back. But of course with how entrenched he is he will keep his career job and still be part of the "Do Nothing Party" So everyone smarten up.....we can fix this Term Limits, No selling their votes, pay for work and no pay for shutdowns, no benefits beyond what the working class has. When their out the gravy train stops. Problem solved. Mitch thank you for doing more than the politicians do.

Yea... not perfect, but it's meaning and effects should be given more time in every high school government class!

Where should the line be drawn? This is again the old question of "states rights". It has always been difficult to deal with. Often it has been abused by states to the detriment of "select citizens" usually minorities not in favor or the wealthy that control the governmental establishments. The courts are the referees... they've gotten some calls wrong, later righted (Dred Scott); some right and later reneged on(Roe v Wade), without good reason!... seems all the common citizen can do is watch the "reindeer" games!

This is a terrible law that should be repealed with a nonpartisan vote. It's another effort by Republicans to ruin public schools and provide public money for private education for their wealthy donors.

A well-reasoned article on how to do the right thing. The Republican legislature will ignore it.

Can you imagine a truck with a boat trailer trying to make a left turn out of there on even a moderately busy time of day? It's going to be a nightmare. I haven't even looked at the video yet.

The day the BOCC appointed Rob Brown to the Planning Commission I cheered. With his institutional knowledge of Manatee County, he is a very welcome addition. I watched the commission meeting and was impressed with all the questions asked. They were informative and well spoken to get all the information needed to make informed decisions. I can't remember the last time a Planning Commission meeting lasted that long.

All five of the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority (SMAA) previous proposals to the FAA have failed to be approved (1) the early 2024 proposed sale of airport land was rejected April 10, 2024 (2) the formal appeal of that FAA rejection of the land sale proposal (3) proposed lease changes with a 20-year term extension (4) construction of a baseball field straddling a property line as an exception to the restrictions the FAA placed on any new construction by their letter of February 12, 2025 and (5) getting the new FAA Washington HQ political appointees to reverse any of these prior FAA rejections. Seems like the SMAA should give up now and accept the FAA’s decisions. The SMAA does not need to do anything to recover its own land when the lease expires. This is New College’s problem, not the SMAA’s problem.

I hope that the International Criminal Court ignores the US president’s request to amend its founding document. The president and his administration have used tactics that can be classified as criminal, such as the illegal deportation of undocumented immigrants to El Salvador, the death of many innocent undocumented people while held in custody and bombing boats in the Caribbean and South East Asia. And what is most aggrieving is the mafia style threats used in order to get what they want. All third grade bully style. The current state of the economy, much of which was caused by his ill-advised policies is being ignored. Lack of affordable housing and healthcare is ignored. His threats to ruin any Congressman or Senator’s career leans toward criminality. Harassment of anyone who he perceives as criticizing him is time and money wasted. It appears that the conquest of the world is more important. By ordering Ukraine to give up land and security putting Europe at risk. They would be in charge of fighting Putin with minimal help from the US. By making a deal with Israel to cheat the Palestinians of their right to its own state. By lying to the world that he alone ended 8 wars in different countries. And what is more ironic is his desire to be nominated for the Nobel Prize for Peace. My beloved country is in serious trouble!

I know the above proposals do not eliminate property taxes all together like the governor wants. However, if you reduce or eliminate property taxes the lost revenue needs to be replaced. The Governor wants to increase the sales tax so you will still pay out of pocket and the funds will go the State coffers instead of the County. Two negative things happen with this plan now Tallahassee controls the purse and decides what we need or what they want to give us, and you know longer have the federal tax deduction for property tax ( you can't deduct sales tax).

Really? Dogs don't live in kennels? Are we that embarrassed that these new kennels are a disaster that we have to hope the public are so gullible as to believe "dogs don't live in kennels?" That's the county's defense for the complete failure of judgement and common sense that led to the decision to choose these cheaply made, too small, too cramped, too loud, unsafe, trailer kennel buildings over concrete block construction? It seems that, by making statements like "MCAW leadership emphasized reducing length of stay , not kennel size, is the most powerful driver...," they are admitting all of the criticism from people who have seen these kennels is valid. If reducing length of stay was as easy as saying so in a press release, why hasn't it happened over the last 10 years? The FACTUAL record that detailed MCAW history leading up to now, including the factual record showing the history of events leading up to taxpayers being stuck with these smaller, lower quality prefab kennels was documented in my December 6 commentary that The Bradenton Times has removed, without public explanation. The undeniable truth is that shelter dogs do live in kennels. Another undeniable truth is that, in Manatee County, no one in the administration is ever held accountable.

Sympthetic legislators and resistance groups have asked us not to call the Everglades Detention Center by the DeSantis name of Alligator Alcatraz. It is demeaning and makes light of the serious nature of the facility. Many people are considering a tourist attraction -stopping to take pictures of themselves by the erected sign of that name. Many resistance groups and interfaith groups continue to have protests and vigils at the area.
