And here we go again. The SME, the one the county signs a check for every two weeks, told them it's a bad idea to go forward until the study can be completed. "It takes years to complete these things." Can we wait? Yes, we have to. You cannot undo what has already been done but we can certainly wait until a study is presented and an objective vote can be made verses one based on emotion and developer support.
Our government is actually a representative republic not a democracy. The ability to amend our State constitution, even though it takes a 2/3 majority vote, is as close as we come to a democracy. DeMousealini even wants to prevent this modicum of democracy from taking place.
Of course Slick Rick doesn't want to have a televised debate where he will have to answer real questions. He would rather just have his fluff ads and not have to be held accountable for his corruption issues.
Glenn,
Excellent letter, very informative, and spot on. I have a question that I have not been able to get an answer to. The huge sewage spills into our waterways always seem to happen with a major flooding event caused by rain. This leads me to believe that the storm water run off is entering our sewage system, is this correct? If this is true why are the two effluents running through the same system. Obviously storm run off water should be treated differently from sewage. I have also been told that the County received a federal grant of millions of dollars a few years back to address this issue but has not acting on this. Is this true?
Like all political organizations, there has always been a degree of dissention in the REC. However, for many years Kathy King managed to pull the group together and ran a very successful organization. After all her hard work, it's heartbreaking to see how much the REC has deteriorated.
A huge thanks to Matt Bower and the citizens of Manatee County who came to speak during public comment. Matt’s comments were right on target as the public is paying either way because we will not leave McClash to pick up the tab for this alone. Kruse was also right on target with his comments. Those citizens coming to discuss the dam and flooding- please keep coming. This board has the ability to share information with the citizens, yet they keep canceling workshops and refuse to have any real discussion on stormwater issues during meetings. This problem is not going away and needs to be addressed. Again, the meeting ended at 11:30am and there was one citizen on the phone for public comment. Instead of taking the one last citizen you pushed them off until later so clearly public comments are still not important. Reverse all you want. Too little too late, the minority will be voted out in 2 years- because citizens will not forget.
I am concerned about our county's election integrity with a "lame duck" supervisor of elections who has fired three of the most qualified employees since he was not the chosen in the last primary. How can the county residents have any confidence that our votes will be handled properly, and counts reported correctly?
WE have signed a petition to the Governor to replace him with no response as yet?
I am a democrat - small d and big D - and I agree with any Republican, that any candidate that puts their goals and objectives above the laws and principles of the Constitution and founding documents of this nation is not "fit" or worthy of holding office in its government at any level! And certainly, not the office of president. This government was by design one that would allow each of the three branches to serve as a check and balance on the other... this princple guide appears to have been broken; by less principled individuals elected, or appointed or both! We expect the best people to serve - with honesty and honor. A great country cannot stay great with less!
A history lesson may be seen looking back as recent as the twentieth century, when Italy, Germany, and yes, the USSR, were able to have "strongmen" rule: Mussolini, Hitler, and Stalin. They were cults of "one-man" above-the-law" rule. History as shown us how well that turned out! Do we see efforts to make that happen here? God forbid!
Three excellent questions. The answer is obvious as has been seen by the recent property damaging floods after storms! Our storm water protection controls are inadequate for the development that has been allowed.
The Manatee Comissioners have failed the businesses and citizens! There is one solution for the citizens... vote them out. Find those who will serve and put the good of all the people of the county over that of lining the pockets of developers!
My understanding is that for a period of time, the little alien guy on the corner of the Opera House was missing, and then later found in storage. I don't know the details, but I love that it was restored to its original spot.
The primary reasons for NO given by Sierra Club boil down to 2 words. "Traditional" and "preferred". The fear is that the use of the word "traditional" would open up now banned practices that are traditional such as bear traps and gill nets (called the wall of death). Preferred means that hunting and fishing would be placed above non-lethal or perhaps more humane means of wildlife management making it both less humane and also possibly having catastrophic effects on wildlife that we might not be able to recover from.
How and why does storm water enter the sewage system? Why aren't these two effluents handled separately? Obviously raw sewage is far more dangerous to our environment than storm runoff water.
Yes, again - the state - make that DeSantis and his "rubber stamp" legislature is putting money ahead of the "good" of the state of Florida. The wildlife corridor is much more valuable to the state than another golf community! Selling off state property for some company's private gain, a private golf course, rather than saving state land for the preservation of Florida's natural wildlife! Florida doesn't need the this kind of money... why are you doing this? It doesn't benefit the people of Florida! Did some dark money flow into your campaign coffers?

Read the resolution uploaded to the agenda. Per description: "Transfers $13,100,000 to reserves in General Fund from the Building Capital Projects fund for the Administration Center New Parking Garage project to reallocate and utilize funding more efficiently. Funding for this project is delayed due to time constraints and will be funded when needed. Also transfers $13.1M from reserves to the Parks and Recreational Capital projects fund for the Seafood Shack/Boat Ramp Land Acquisition project to acquire property."
Where in that resolution is Peninsula Bay ramp funds mentioned except at board meeting? Where is boat ramp funding mentioned?
According to resolution, they took the money from the admin parking garage. Guess the administration parking garage is no longer critical to replace in the detriment to staff and citizen safety.
Can't take your eyes off these a*****es for a second... How is Florida's wildlife going to survive with all the impacts from all directions?
...
I'm sure they'll find a way to bring it back around.
