Interesting opinion. The truth of the situation lies somewhere between your letter and Mitch 's opinion. Nothing in your letter proves that the knee wasn't on the back and you gloss over the autopsy report concerning the presence of opiates in his system. Although the drugs did not cause an overdose they did affect his cardio pulmonary system and contributed to his death. What we actually have here is a perfect storm of events that created a tragedy that ruined many lives.

What a pitiful example of an elected official. Clearly KVO has bully issues that apparently has been lifelong. Elected officials that conduct themselves in this manner must be removed. The existing board needs to have a vote of no confidence and remove KVO immediately before he can do more harm to the citizens and taxpayers of this county. If that doesn’t work he needs to be voted out of office… KVO One & Done

This has concerned me for a long time. We ask, what can we do? Consume less! Do we really need 10 pairs of jeans, 20 tee shirts, a new cute blouse each week? We are consumaholics. We do NOT need so much, only to stuff it in our closet, then discard at the end of the year. WE create the market for the greed and inequities. Do you know how many TONS of clothing goes to landfills each year? 13 million tons of textiles are sent to landfills or incinerated in the USA EACH YEAR! Ruth Lawler

These are all excellent suggestions. When you consider that 40% of food produced in the US is wasted, this to me is horrifying, especially in context of our worldwide issues of tens of thousands of people in Palestine are with little food at all. Food that is dumped in the garbage and not composted, emits methane while it decomposes. Two simple things... don't waste food yet freeze or reinvent ways to use it. IF you do dispose of it, at least compost it instead of dumping in the garbage. Ruth Lawler

Until we get some commissioners that actually listen to their constituents I am not optimistic.

Elaine, great comment, unfortunately our elected officials are brainwashed about development. They only look for what's in it form them in the short term, more real estate tax monies from over development. They have no vision in the larger picture of what we should be leaving to future generations to come. Slam, bam, done deal should be their mission statement. Have a boat protest peacefully and disrupt rush hour traffic a few days your results should have a better outcome than where the boaters are now. I believe that Gandhi was correct. Non-violent civil disobedience is the only way to bring about change that allows people to enjoy the change and not get killed in the process. Edward James Olmos

Why bother, take just one important issue EVERYBODY agree on was NOT to reduce the setbacks on WETLANDS. Did the BOCC listen, NOPE NADA didn't care what the Advisory Planning Board said or recommended. Being on any advisory board is just being a RINO Recognition In Name Only If the board amends the wetlands regulations, they'll do so without the approval of the Manatee County Planning Commission, which voted 4-2 last week against recommending any changes. The four planning commissioners who opposed said they either couldn’t see how the changes benefited the public or that they did not have enough information to make a decision. That meeting was well attended by residents who came to weigh in on the issue. https://www.wusf.org/environment/2023-08-16/manatee-county-proposed-changes-developers-build-closer-wetlands The BOCC is bought, sold and instructed what to do on all matters concerning development. VOTE THEM OUT especially is the vote is after lunch when the developers handlers had a chance to instruct them on how to vote. This BOCC has been one big disappointment to the citizens of Manatee County. WTF aka Welcome To Florida

This is not a constitutional issue and the courts have no standing in acting as though they have medical degrees. If the SCOTUS acts contrary to the FDA then all medications that are currently used off label should be banned from this practice. Take a look at the number of deaths and serious complications that can come from Viagra and that should be banned also. This is another step moving towards a totalitarian society where personal freedoms are attacked.

I worked for the county. I laughed with him about the newspapers in the late 90's and early 2000.. The local papers covered much more then they do now. I got called by one reporter, can't remember his name but when called I ran to my director and building official to make sure I didn't have to answer. They dd. Then, had one female who got my phone number and she would call after work hours for a comment. So much for being anonymous.

Oh good grief, Mitch! The whole judge, jury, the justice system and our own eyes somehow got it wrong, but clever videographers got it right? Minnesotans who know the Minneapolis police know better. They've been known as thumpers forever. And they kill one every once in awhile. Justice has been served by the established legal system.

Beardon's sole job is to continually remove a commissioner from a position. Earlier this year he motioned to remove KVO as chairman. Passed but turned over 2 days later when Ballard changed her vote. Then he motioned to remove Kruse from the Port Authority board. Kruse did not object even though he was right that the U.S. Coast Guard was the authority in charge of the oil spill. This last meeting he called for Kruse to resign from the board. This did not go to a vote. He's also the one who motioned to put a hold on Tunnels 2 Towers project in favor of one in north county on property dedicated to the county with the expressed purpose for a park based on the development order, not any residential. His sole purpose is as a disrupter. He gives nothing of substance to the governance of the county.

Sounds like a nice organization, but it's really just a way for a wreath company that lost its contract with LL Bean to make up for lost revenue. The organization was founded and is run by the family that owns Worcester Wreath Company. They award contracts to themselves. I am certain loss of residents is the idea. Some investors don't really care that the locals have nowhere to go, or that communities are being broken up, as long as their balance sheet looks good. (Then will be the first to complain that "nobody wants to work anymore.")
